German government looking at various options for Opel

We read a wild rumor earlier this morning on TTAC that BMW may buyout Opel. While that remains a rumor (and we hope that it remains one forever), a German government spokeswoman said today that Germany is looking at various options to help Opel a unit of General Motors.

“We are still working on this, there are various options and scenarios we are looking at … and developments in the United States are of course important,” a spokeswoman for the Economy Ministry said during a government news conference, reports Automotive News.

Last month, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the government was ready to guarantee funds for Opel with a decision coming by Christmas.
